Feeding From a Full Cup

On Saturday, August 20, 2022, we will host Feeding from a Full Cup, an event to celebrate Black mothers and the people who support them, at the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center in Gulfport to kick off Black Breastfeeding Week 2022.

The event will include a community baby shower and learning opportunities to highlight support for healthy families on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

The keynote conversation will feature former US Poet Laureaute and Gulfport native Natasha Trethewey. Trethewey won the 2007 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry for her 2006 collection Native Guard., and she recently released Memorial Drive: A Daughter’s Memoir which explores her mother’s history in the deeply segregated South and through her own girlhood as a “child of miscegenation” in Mississippi.

Ways for Community organizations to engage in the Black Breastfeeding Week Event

  1. Register to attend the event and invite other staff members to participate.
  2. Register as a vendor for the community baby shower. Spaces are limited for organizations that want to be vendors at the community baby shower. Register here, and spots will be honored on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  3. Share this event with new or expecting mothers in your community.
